* There are a total of 16 schools -- 10 elementary schools (K-8), 1 middle school (grades 5-8), 4 high schools and the LIFT Academy Alternative School -- in the Carter County School System. Of the schools in the system, 80% of the elementary schools are SACS accredited and 100% of the high schools are SACS accredited. All of the schools in the system have been designated as "Safe Schools."

* 433 teachers guide and direct the education of the 6,369 students who attend school in the Carter County School System, creating an average teacher-to-student ratio of 1:14.71.

* The schools in the Elizabethton School System meet most of the federal benchmark standards laid out for K-8 education as well as grades 9-12.

*On the Gateway Exams for grades 9-12, 68% of those tested score at or above the proficiency level in Math (Algebra I); 84% scored at or above the proficiency level in English; and 98% scored at or above the proficiency level for Science (Biology I).

* The Carter County School System has a full-time D.A.R.E. program with the Carter County Sheriff's Department with four full-time officers working in the schools, including one K-9 team which is used to search for narcotics.
