Carter County and Elizabethton is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Cherokee National Forest, Appalachian Trail and the Watauga Lake giving the area a description of "naturally nice."

The Watauga River and Doe River converge in the City of Elizabethton and run along side the historic Sycamore Shoal State Park. It doesn't matter what recreational activity you are looking for, chances are it is here in Carter County. Rafting, fishing, and hiking is available for outdoor activities in many locations around the county.
